PAPUA NEW GUINEA (PNG)—The Salvation Army in PNG called on the government for action following a recent survey, which revealed more than 2,200 homeless people on the streets of Port Moresby.
According to Major Rex Johnston, the Army’s PNG program secretary, many of the street children are orphans of AIDS victims who collect plastic and aluminum for money, while others are so desperate they enter the sex trade.
Now that the problem has been identified, the Army is lobbying the government for funding to run skills workshops.
