Coeur d’Alene proposed site of Kroc Center

The Kroc Center project in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, has been a wonderful undertaking for the Northwest Division, and has been a great source of inspiration and partnerships.

“The community members and leaders in Coeur d’Alene have welcomed us with open arms, from the mayor on down,” said Major John Chamness, Northwest divisional secretary for business, who has been working on the project since it began. “Everyone is very excited about the project.”

Over the past few months, Chamness and other Northwest divisional staff have been working hard with Coeur d’Alene officials in selecting an architect, launching a marketing survey, and conducting a feasibility study. In addition, they have also established an advisory board and subsequent committees, and have met with local sports, recreation, and performing arts groups to gain insight into exactly what the surrounding communities would like to see at the Kroc Center.

Potential components of the Kroc Center include a 25-yard by 25-meter competition pool, rock climbing area, indoor running/walking track, fine arts room (for oil and watercolor painting, pottery, etc.), a chapel, and an indoor soccer arena.

To help lead the way to success, the Northwest Division has also created a vision statement for the project. The vision states “The Coeur d’Alene Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (RJKCCC) will embody the very best of The Salvation Army’s service and mission impact for the 21st century. The Salvation Army is committed to producing tangible outcomes that will change lives and rebuild souls of the youth, families and seniors of the five-county North Idaho region.”
