With enthusiastic anticipation, 44 teenagers and young adults eagerly absorbed the instruction offered recently at the Cascade Division’s annual Creative Ministries Academy.

New to the general curriculum of drama and worship-in-motion was puppetry and “Holy Hip-Hop!” Says Lt. Colonel Richard Love, divisional commander, “The goal, as always, is to explore ways to motivate and encourage our own young people while introducing new and exciting ways for them to grow in their faith and witness for our Lord. This year was no exception.”

Different dramas and human videos enabled all students to participate. The more energetic were enthralled with Holy Hip-Hop (Susan Horton) and the ever popular worship-in-motion (Lt. Christennette Apuan) provided an excellent vehicle for creating a reverent atmosphere of praise and worship.

Special guests Captains Robert and Claudia Simpson, from St. Louis, Mo., explained the unique appeal puppetry has in attracting people of all ages and demonstrated effectively the potent impact puppets can have in communicating the Gospel.

During the academy the students presented four dramas, two worship-in-motion and Holy Hip-Hop! routines, and with the five puppet stages enthralled a capacity audience in the final concert.

“With several corps operating summer camps and regularly holding sidewalk Sunday schools, the various creative ministry expressions are specifically selected to aid communicating the Gospel,” adds Keith Stoner, divisional corps growth consultant.

“We believe they will be a major influence and resource towards our People Count strategies as many corps in this division vigorously expand their outreach programs.”
