KETTLES FILLED WITH KINDNESS, CASH

In Fort Collins, Colo., three gold coins were dropped in different kettles around town: a South African Krugerrand and two U.S. Liberty 1-ounce coins. The Krugerrand and one of the Liberty coins were auctioned off for a total of $1,575. According to Business Administrator Jonathan Harvey, there was a $500 bid on the other Liberty coin.

In Santa Rosa, Calif., Tommy Smothers of the “Smothers Brothers” took time to ring the bell while taking part in a live radio broadcast at the Simon Santa Rosa Plaza. All proceeds from the “on the air auction” went to The Salvation Army. Smothers had many great words to say about The Salvation Army while on the air. “A huge thanks goes to Tommy for his fine work,” said Santa Rosa Corps Officer Captain Phil Lum.

In Tucson, Ariz., Senator John McCain and Congressman Jim Kolbe rang in their support for The Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive. The politicos were on hand at a local Target store, as bell ringers, meeting Target customers and ringing the bells for The Salvation Army. Their efforts paid off, as more than $1,100 was raised toward the Army’s Kettle Drive this holiday season.
