Authorities in Brazil celebrate Salvation Army

22964857701_44fa621668_zThe city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, held an event to recognize and celebrate The Salvation Army’s 150th anniversary. More than 200 people attended a meal and reception organized by the Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro, the city’s legislative body.

Salvation Army officers, soldiers and employees from the Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Federal District Division were invited to the event, which included a presentation and meal. The ministry of selected Salvationists was recognized and every employee from the division received a certificate. Some had given more than 50 years of service.

22330983234_2262dd18da_zMusic was provided by a choral group and band, and a timbrel brigade gave a tambourine presentation. Guests of honor represented churches, the Lions Club and local authorities.

Divisional Commander Major Dan Ford spoke about The Salvation Army’s international ministry and gave thanks for the support of Councillor Eliseu Kessler, whose initiative led to the special event.
