DELEGATES TO THE Hispanic Women’s Conference gather in Hawaii.

The Kona Corps of the Big Island of Hawaii held its first Hispanic women’s retreat recently, at the beautiful Kilauea Military Camp in Volcano National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Attending were Francisca Zamudio, Sara Maldonado, Angela Ibarra, Aida Sanchez, Josefina Zamudio and Virginia Ybarra, six of the current ten Hispanic Women’s Ministry members.

Captain Ruth Scott of the Tulare Corps, Tulare, Calif., was guest speaker for the weekend. The theme for the retreat was based on Beth Moore’s book Praying God’s Word. Scott strongly encouraged the ladies to have a prayer-filled life, as prayer will help them overcome obstacles in their lives. She explained the importance of prayer as the foundation of a healthy, spiritually blessed life, and that it was essential in their daily walk with Christ.

The weekend was filled with other fun activities including a tour of the volcano; Scott also taught a timbrel routine and in spite of the fact that the ladies had never held a timbrel in their hands, they managed to successfully share their routine at the Big Island United Meeting held at the North Hawaii Corps in Honokaa, which was the culmination of the weekend retreat.

The ladies expressed their appreciation to The Salvation Army and Captain Scott for taking time out of her busy schedule to share with them in their native language, as programs and services for Hispanics are limited in Hawaii. They felt so blessed by the event that they are already planning to raise funds for another Spanish retreat for next year.
