April 2003 meeting

The U. S. Conference of Commissioners recently welcomed four new officers to its membership. Commissioners Carol Bassett, national president of women’s ministries, and the territorial presidents of women’s ministries – Joy Baillie (Central), Nancy Moretz (East) and Keitha Needham (South) – joined the Commissioners’ Conference at its meeting at National Headquarters in April.

General John Larsson approved the following amendment to the constitution of the U.S. Conference of Commissioners (CC), making possible the appointment of these leaders:

“Membership of the Conference is comprised of all active Commissioners serving at National Headquarters or in any of the territories in the United States of America, the national chief secretary and the respective USA territorial chief secretaries, who shall have been duly appointed as such by the General of The Salvation Army. Membership in the Conference [which addresses strategic issues related to the policies of The Salvation Army] shall terminate upon retirement from active service or upon appointment by the General to a position other than those specified in this article” (CC minutes, Feb. 2003, p. 356).
