Corps holds Memorial Day observance

The Reno (Nev.) Corps held a Memorial Day observance in the corps courtyard with several veterans from the congregation participating.

Major Joe Whipple, retired Salvation Army officer and a veteran, explained the meaning of Memorial Day and the cost of life involved in the wars fought to preserve freedom. Everyone took part in the flag ceremony and The Salvation Army Beginning Band played patriotic tunes. Senior Soldier Dave Wright presented the gospel message on the One who “gave all” for our souls.

Afterwards, corps soldiers, adherents and Adult Rehabilitation Program beneficiaries assisted with a barbecue enjoyed by 420 people. Junior soldiers helped make the punch and ran craft tables for the children, while the Women’s Auxiliary set up a kids’ carnival.

Majors Michael and Janene Zielinski are corps officers in Reno.
