The Army to join other agencies in providing humanitarian aid

The Salvation Army is mobilizing resources in response to the humanitarian crisis in Iraq.
International Headquarters has dispatched Emergency Services Coordinator Major Cedric Hills and consultant Major Mike Olsen to the region.

General John Larsson stated: “The Salvation Army stands poised to do its part to help alleviate the human suffering of the Iraqi people.”

According to United Nations officials, water, sanitation, food and shelter are the priority needs.

Major Hills commented: “We see the reports daily on our TV screens and in our newspapers. We want to be in a position to respond immediately once the security situation permits. Our emergency staff are prepared to commence providing humanitarian assistance, and personnel from all around the world are on standby, ready for immediate deployment.”

An appeal has been launched for funds, and donations for this “Middle East Emergency Fund” may be sent to The Salvation Army Western Territorial Headquarters c/o Community Relations and Development; 180 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802-4709.
