Driscoll’s supports Army
Driscoll’s Nursery—producers of 25 percent of the berries in Americagave a $7,000 donation to The Salvation Army in Red Bluff, Calif., to help pay for the new position of bilingual outreach coordinator/case worker in Tehama County. Driscoll’s philanthropy team members are: Oscar Mendoza, Conception Narez, Gloria Luvian, Manuel Valencia, Karlee Varney, Melissa MacFarlane, Jose Avila, Raul Pulido, and Guillermo Aguilar. Red Bluff corps officer Major Frank Severs received the check, accompanied by advisory board volunteers Tom Moisey, chair; Beverly Ross; Steve Baker; and Tim Weatherson. Maria Navarette is bilingual outreach coordinator.

San Bernardo helps homeless kids
Fourteen homeless children started school with new clothes, backpacks, and classroom essentials, thanks to a $1,400 donation from the Hispanic Alliance Group to the San Bernardino Corps. The children are occupants of Hospitality House, the Army’s emergency family shelter. Shelter Director Roosevelt Carroll and volunteers took the children shopping at Target to get the clothing and supplies. Captains Stephen and Nancy Ball are corps officers.

Congratulations, Colonel!
Retired Salvation Army officer Colonel Joy Church was one of more than 500 people to raise their right hand in Denver, Colorado’s Civic Center Park and become a United States citizen. The ceremony was held on a beautiful sunny morning and was witnessed by her husband, Colonel George Church, friends and members of the Women’s Auxiliary.

AAYBC Vball takes first
Congratulations to the Asian American Yerba Buena Corps’ volleyball team-first place winners at the Golden State Division’s volleyball tournament held at the San Francisco Kroc Center. Teams from corps around the division included: Clovis, San Francisco Korean, San Francisco Lighthouse, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale. Kudos to Monica Bucholz, Jerry Chiu, Jessica Ho, Faith Lau, Mike Lau, Peter Lee, Ray Lew, Kim Tam, Christina Wond, and Darren Wong.

Roseville grows through trials
Captains Chris and Lisa Aird, Roseville, Calif., corps officers, didn’t dream that the answer to their prayers for a harvest might include a major flood. Just before the Christmas season last year, a clogged storm drain caused severe flooding to the corps. “The congregation lost half the building,” said corps youth worker Jeff Walters. “Yet programs kept growing, the homeless community still found help, and the Wednesday night Bible study nearly tripled in size.” The corps is now nearly done with a spectacular remodel and on its way to spiritually preparing for what God may do next.
