Renton Scouts growing
The Salvation Army Cub Scout Pack 809 in Renton, Wash., continues to grow, reports Program Leader Dani Killingsworth. “We have 13 boys on our rolls and about 11 boys attend each week.” Recently, the pack held a Pinewood Derby where the boys raced cars they had sanded and painted earlier in the year. Afterwards, each earned a certificate stating an attribute of the car they raced, and all the boys received a participation ribbon.

Yuma is in fashion
It was like grand opening day at the Yuma, Ariz. Family Store recently, as Star 100.9 FM presented the store’s first annual fashion show. Station DJ, Jay Fox was the MC for the event, and news anchors from KSWT News 13 and KYMA News Channel 11 modeled clothing, as did children from the Yuma and Somerton Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs. Capt. Vickie Harvey worked with Maria Bajo from the Yuma warehouse team to create outfits. “Our customers loved it, and the event gave everyone a positive boost in the midst of a very depressed economy,” noted Capt. Jonathan Harvey.

Pappa John’s Pizza partners
Papa John’s Pizza in Sparks, Nev., partnered with The Salvation Army of Reno, Nevada to feed local low-income families, reports Carole Miller. The pizzeria delivered 125 piping hot pizzas to the Army’s administrative offices. In addition, Cold Stone Creamery provided a quart of ice cream and Coke provided soft drinks for each family. “We’re grateful to Papa John’s for their generous donation,” said Major Doug Williams, Reno corps officer. “Any food assistance for our clients during this tough economy period is very helpful.

BOW outreach in San Diego
The San Diego Centre City Corps’ Home League recently hosted their annual BOW (Bring One Woman) outreach tea using the theme, “Fill My Cup Lord.” Many of the 103 ladies who attended live in a nearby transitional shelter and were especially invited; most had never attended an event such as this. The women enjoyed choruses by the Home League Singers (formed for this occasion). Home League Chaplain Kittura Wimer gave a powerful testimony, followed by a beautiful solo by WM Secretary Michele Brindle. Commissioner Gwen Luttrell gave an inspirational message.

Happy Birthday!
Birthday blessings to Brigadier Biennenida Acosta, who celebrated his 94th birthday on June 4, and to Mrs. Major Dianna Meyer, who celebrated her 98th birthday on June 4th as well. May the Lord continue to bless these folks who have given so many years to him through the Army.
