Flinn joins Chicago Staff Band
Meredith N. Flinn, Pasadena Tabernacle Corps youth and senior musician, now a student at Trinity International University in Chicago has auditioned and has been appointed as a member of The Salvation Army’s Chicago Staff Band. The daughter of Pasadena Tabernacle soldiers Bandmaster William and Catherine Flinn, she received her early musical training at the Tab and at Southern California music camps; she has also been a songster, youth choir member, timbrelist and helped with leadership of the singing company. Flinn is one of three young persons who grew up and received their musical training in the Western Territory, and has been appointed to a staff band.

Whipples receive Paul Harris Award
Captains Cathy and Joe Whipple, Victorville, Calif., corps officers, received the Paul Harris Award from Victorville Rotary Club at its July luncheon. Victorville Rotary spokesman Steve Flannery noted: “They are personal examples of The Salvation Army at its best.” Army employee Lynn Pachman was also commended for her dedicated work.

Denver ARC and Red Shield Corps enroll twelve
Twelve members of the Denver, Colo., Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) program were enrolled as adherents at Denver Red Shield Corps. The 12, who completed adherent training classes under the direction of Captain Grady Brown, ARC administrator, and were enrolled by Red Shield Corps Officer Captain Ron McKinney, are: Jeffery Huffman, Mike Malmgren, Justin Riley, Rodney Perkins, Kimberly Kutcher, Larry Mendez, Alan Stewart, Jeffrey Allen, Eugine King, Anthony Connor, Ben Lillard and Brady Spencer.

San Diego Citadel participates in Clairemont Family Day
Soldiers, adherents, and friends of the San Diego Citadel Corps celebrated the 19th Annual Clairemont Family Day. Ninety-two children and adults in the Clairemont community participated, including Donna Frye, San Diego City Councilman for the district. The corps had a “make and take” booth; as the children made crafts, parents learned about the Adventure Corps, Sunbeam, and Girl Guard and other corps programs. Major Warren and Dixie Dabis are the corps officers.

WBC supports overseas work
The Western Bible Conference (WBC), with the approval of Territorial Commander Commissioner Philip Swyers, contributed $1,200 for the work of Major Beryl Pierce’s solar panels project in Zambia, and $1,200 for the work of Captains Daniel and Anya Henderson in Estonia, for the territorial congress to be held in Helsinki, Finland, in September 2009.
