BY KORINA ACOSTA –

There is a song that says “Turn on the light in your life and let it shine; the light that Jesus placed in your heart, no one can ever dampen.”

At the El Paso Temple Corps, Texas, that light began to shine when Captains Zoilo and Magali Pardo, along with other faithful members, got down on their knees and prayed to the Lord for guidance.

From that moment on, the Lord gave us a VISION. That vision was to have 800 soldiers by 2005. The Lord also gave us a MISSION, to preach and share the Good News with the population, and he gave us a MOTTO, “Fired up to Fire up Others.” This saying has been our challenge and has inspired us to continue growing.

El Paso Temple Corps and the Captains Pardo have seen miracles performed that only God could have fulfilled. Sicknesses cured, prayers answered, and hearts have been mended through His infinite love. “We have had children, teens, and adults praying for the peace of this world and for the work of the Salvation Army here in the states as well as abroad,” said Captain Zoilo Pardo.

Within the corps the congregation has grown as one with the captains in these past six years. Four hundred twenty soldiers have been enrolled, and more than 7,000 persons have been reached through different ministries such as home visits, Sunday school, evangelism campaigns, open air meetings, personal contacts done through the telephone and other key elements.

We have also formed a bond with persons through the Home League, the Men’s Club, the YP meetings, League of Mercy, “candy outreach” (which is a workshop aimed at children), school bus ministries, and of course, praise and worship. Through a good disciple-ship and training we now have 34 local officers who help bless the ministry with their their skills and talents.

NEW APPOINTMENT

Captains Zoilo and Magali Pardo, El Paso Temple Corps officers, have been appointed as training principal and director of special services of the Officer Training College in the Mexico Territory, effective February 17, 2003.

Captains Pedro and Elizabeth Delgado, Los Angeles Central corps officers, have been appointed as El Paso Temple Corps officers.
