Four new programs to begin in September ’09.

The Salvation Army William and Catherine Booth College (Winnipeg, MB Canada) has announced the establishment of four new degree programs and the enhancement of another degree program as the institution repositions itself as a “Christian university college.” In addition to the new Bachelor of Arts programs, Booth College will strengthen its successful Bachelor of Social Work program to enhance the knowledge base and clinical skills of its graduates.

New Bachelor of Arts programs in Religion, English and Film Studies, Behavioral Sciences and General Studies will commence in September 2009. To staff the new programs, Booth College is in the process of hiring new faculty.

To accompany these new programs, the faculty has also approved a new core curriculum that will be required of all Booth College students in Winnipeg. The core curriculum includes courses in the sciences, social sciences, humanities and religion. A new feature of the core curriculum is a mandatory course in world religions that will complement the college’s core courses in Christianity. Additionally, all students will be required to complete an Urban Service Learning component.

The announcement of these new programs is a major step in the transformation of Booth College into a Christian university college. The new program platform has been in the planning stage for the past two years.

Booth College brings together Christian faith, rigorous scholarship and a passion for service. The college educates students to understand the complexities of our world, to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be active contributors to society, and to know how Christian faith compels them to bring hope, social justice and mercy into our world.
