Theme will be “Race and Reconciliation: Melting Pot or Mosaic?”

The second bi-annual Urban Forum will take place January 9-12, 2007 at The Salvation Army’s Continuing Education Center in Atlanta, Georgia. It will focus on ministries within Canada and the US, with the theme “Race and Reconciliation: Melting Pot or Mosaic?” The forum is a 614 Network event (see www.614network.com for information on the Army’s incarnational ministries) in partnership with the Southern Territory.

Plenary speakers include Robert Lupton from Atlanta (For Theirs is the Kingdom), Shane Claiborne from Philadelphia (The Simple Way, The Irresistible Revolution), Ray Eldred from Winnipeg and others.

The forum provides an opportunity to share resources and to network with urban practitioners from across the continent. Sessions include worship and prayer led by Marty Mikles; interaction with plenary speakers; presentation and discussion of papers; “Open Space” sessions to explore and discuss points specific to the urban context; “Storytelling” sessions for highlighting new and innovative ministries; “Faith and Culture” sessions for delegates to interact with films and music videos on race and reconciliation themes. The program also includes a field trip to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Museum.

The 2005 forum—Transformation and Incarnation: Doing Church in the City—was primarily a venue for Salvationist practitioners. In 2007, the forum will see Salvationists plus a number of delegates from other denominations and organizations.
