The Pikes Peak Community Foundation of Colorado Springs, Colo., has awarded a grant of $2,500 to The Salvation Army, designated for hunger relief in Argentina.
Elizabeth and Terence Lilly, fund advisors to the foundation, requested the grant in response to the current financial and social crisis in Argentina. The foundation is supporting the Army’s efforts to provide feeding programs and other relief operations during these times of devaluation of the currency, inflation, high unemployment and poverty.
This grant is an example of the awareness that local communities have of the effectiveness of The Salvation Army’s global work. Many people today, understanding the implications of being world citizens, are looking for responsible ways to get involved and do their part. These people have confidence in the Army’s disaster relief efforts and in our worldwide community development that results in social and spiritual enrichment.
As the Western Territory works to cast a greater global vision we are thankful to know that our local communities stand ready to partner with us. We need to remember to include them in our World Services opportunities.
