Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Johnny Carino’s helps out
Johnny Carino’s Italian Restaurant in Sierra Vista, Arizona, planned to give 15 percent of its total Labor Day sales to The Salvation Army hurricane efforts in the Gulf Coast region. In all, the day brought in over $500 for the relief effort. Jeff Barnado, general manager of the restaurant, said that the original donation was to be 10 percent, but he made the decision to “up” it to 15. Barnardo, along with Captain Bob Schmig, are planning a similar day to help raise funds for local Salvation Army efforts.

Colorado Springs celebrates
Colorado Springs Corps Officer Major David Howarth reports on a special Sunday: “It was our monthly Celebration Sunday, which is our attempt at making church accessible to those who don’t usually go. This month it fell on Grandparents Day. The hall was packed; the message was taken from Deuteronomy 6, that the older generations should pass on to those who follow the stories of God. Perhaps the highlight was Major Willdonna Rich doing a feature seated in a rocking chair, dressed as a grandmother. She spoke of how her mother had told her the stories of Jesus, and how she was now doing the same. She then invited all the grandparents to come and help her sing ‘Tell me the story of Jesus.’ Around 30 grandparents came forward.”
