Computer classes available
The San Francisco Harbor Light now offers computer classes to its residents and local agencies. Thanks to a donation from the Beaumont Foundation, Harbor Light has been able to set up three computer labs in its facility. A total of 20 computers have been donated, in addition to color printers, laser printers, digital cameras and digital projectors.

San Bernardino honored
Majors Russ and Jacqueline Fritz report the San Bernardino City Council honored The Salvation Army with a proclamation, stating in part: “Due to their undying and under-recognized efforts (during the Old Fire Disaster) we are eternally grateful to The Salvation Army.”

More than 640 homes were destroyed within the city limits. Salvationists provided much-needed food and shelter to victims.

SA on the scene in Madrid
Emergency Disaster Coordinator Tom McSherry reports that The Salvation Army has responded to the series of bomb explosions that wracked Madrid’s commuter train system, resulting in the deaths of 200 individuals and leaving more than 1,500 injured.

The Salvation Army’s Madrid Command dispatched emergency personnel and volunteers to the explosion sites and hospitals with blankets, food and water to provide some comfort. Counselors are being made available to the families of the victims as they begin to cope with this horrific event. “Your prayer and support for all those affected by the explosions is appreciated,” said McSherry.

JUST A REMINDER
National Salvation Army Week (May 10-16) is just around the corner, and our friends at Northwest DHQ are arranging to make The Famous Sal-vation Army Doughnut available to interested corps/units around the territory on a wholesale basis for National Salvation Army Week. Through a special arrangement, Fred Meyer has agreed to have their bakery ship doughnuts across the territory. The doughnuts may be used for promotional purposes or sold as a fundraiser.

Estonia plans for future
Majors Wes and Ruth Sundin report a recent visit to Estonia by Colonels Dan and Helen Starrett resulted in developing a plan and vision for a new thrift store. “There is great potential for a store located in the area of Tallinn called Lasnamae,” said Sundin, “as it is in the middle of a Russian housing project with all kinds of other stores around it.

In addition, the Sundins will be setting up seven summer camps and preparing to open two new corps.
