THANKS FROM CHILDREN OVERSEAS

Major Sharron Hudson, Overseas Children’s Sponsorship director, would like to thank all who stopped by the the Oversees Children’s Sponsorship exhibit at YouthQuake 6.02. “We took in $140 for the Kunson Children’s Home in Korea, and eight paid sposorships were given, plus we had numerous inquiries,” Hudson said.

SUNBEAMS SHINE

Commissioner David Edwards recently presented the Commissioner’s Sunbeam Award to Torrance Corps, Calif., Sunbeams Sheila Marie Jimenez and Megan Bearchell. Congratulations!

LEWISTON ON THE GO

Majors R. Ernest and Juanita Clevett, Lewiston Corps officers, report Garrett Krieger, Evan Kreiger, Stephanie Davis and Mary Davis were recently enrolled as junior soldiers, and new advisory board members Jack Porter, Jan Spencer, Rick Wasem, David Fuchs, and Lt. Jim Cain were recently installed.

INTERCESSORS CELEBRATE 50

Major Oscar Youngquist reports the Intercessors Session of cadets (1951-1952) celebrated their 50th year reunion during Commissioning weekend. A well-planned program provided many memories and smiles for those attending.

RENO CARES FOR KIDS

The Reno, Nevada, corps has teamed up with the local food bank to offer a summer feeding program for needy children, joining 15 other Kids Cafe sites in the Reno area that will provide meals Monday-Friday, through August 23.

An estimated 16,000 Washoe County school children qualify for free or reduced-priced U.S.D.A. meals during the school year. The corps takes the feeding program a step further in the summer by offering Kids Club — a comprehensive activities program scheduled after the meal each day. Activities include Christian education, safety instruction from local emergency response agencies, a computer lab and regular exercise sessions by 24-Hour Fitness. A grant from a Reno-based foundation funded the additional staff positions and other expenses required for the new program.

CENTRALIA HOLDS ‘KING’S FEAST’

The women of the Centralia Corps, Wash., focus group held their second annual “King’s Feast” fundraiser. Set in the Middle Ages, with authentic foods and a variety of entertainment, guests were treated to bagpipe entertainment, as well as harp and pan flute music. They were successful in raising over $700 which will be used in supporting World Services, as well as other outings and activities throughout the year.

BIBLE CLUB

The Santa Rosa Corps, Calif., began an after-school Bible Club at Brook Hill Elementary School this spring. Under the leadership of Youth Director Neil Navarro, volunteers taught Bible stories and shared the gospel. In just six short weeks, attendance reached 76, and 33 young people asked Jesus to be Lord of their lives. On June 5th, a group of volunteer clowns, Bluebell, Squeaky and Bluey, entertained the children during an end-of-school party.

BOOTH CELEBRATES MOTHERS

Major Larry Shiroma, administrator of the Anchorage Booth Memorial Youth & Family Services, hosted a very special Mother’s Day chapel and brunch in the Booth Family Services building. Major Katrina Grundahl was the special guest speaker. Each mother attending received a beautiful red rose. Following the service everyone enjoyed a delicious brunch prepared by Richard Hentges.
