by Sue Schumann WarnerWhile I’ll admit that Easter eggs and bunnies and egg hunts and baskets filled with candies are fun (chocolate eggs happen to be among my favorites!) I’m so glad the real meaning of Easter is found in an empty tomb outside Jerusalem’s city wall–still proclaiming an eloquent, though silent, message of forgiveness and new life: “He is not here, he is risen!” Christ is risen indeed.

That message of forgiveness, hope and new life through the risen Christ is shared by Salvationists and friends throughout the West…

YAKIMA SUPPORTS WORLD SERVICES

The Yakima, Wash., corps, recently held an international dinner and auction, attended by over 200, to raise funds for the corps’ World Services effort. It was the 16th year the event had been held. “Brad Sutton Auctioneers donated their services conducting the auction,” report Corps Officers Majors David and Deanna Sholin. “Foods from China, France, Italy, Japan, Norway and the U.S. were featured. The soldiers and friends who prepared the food items provided all the supplies without cost to the corps.” This year’s event raised $3,068, a 20% increase over the previous year.

WAL-MART DONATES DIAPERS

Wal-Mart has generously donated a semi-truck full of diapers to The Salvation Army in Tucson, Ariz. as the Green Valley Outpost, Ron and Evelyn Weppler in-charge, held its first Diaper Drive. Diapers were collected from the community at Wal-Mart and other local retailers. Ken Swinuich, a business leader in the area and member of the Advisory Committee, contacted local Wal-Mart stores to participate. As a result, a truckload of diapers arrived in Tucson and Green Valley; Wal-mart donated thousands of diapers, equivalent to 24 pallets. The Army will distribute the diapers to low-income families in Southern Arizona.

STRICKLAND SPEAKS TO WOMEN

The Puyallup Valley, Wash., women’s auxiliary recently had Major Pamela Strickland, divisional director of Women’s Organizations, as guest speaker. She was introduced by Colonel Joy Church (R), who at one time held that position, and spoke about the activities of four other auxiliaries in the Northwest Division: Great Falls, Mont., and Olympia, Spokane, and Walla Walla, Wash. “Being beginners, we were very impressed at the projects accomplished by these groups,” said Joyce Johnston, auxiliary publicity. Strickland thanked the members for their hard work. Auxiliary President Velta Andrews presented Strickland with a bouquet of daffodils.

PROMOTED TO GLORY
