Good start to 2007 in Anaheim
The Anaheim Temple Corps, Calif., started 2007 with a bang. “On Sunday, December 31, 2006 we had the privilege of enrolling new members,” said Captains Salvador and Gloribel Gonzalez, corps officers. “God blessed us with five new senior soldiers and five new junior soldiers.” “Three new local leaders were also presented,” Captain Gloribel Gonzales added.

The captains explained that the corps’ members worked hard to achieve their goals before the end of the year. “It was an enormous blessing for all of us, to have the satisfaction of enrolling new soldiers,” Gonzalez said.

High Desert installs advisory board members
The Victor Valley Corps, Calif., recently installed 12 new advisory board members. Sierra Del Mar Divisional Commander Lt. Colonel Doug O’Brien introduced and welcomed the new members, and Corps Officers Captains Joe and Cathy Whipple spoke of the importance of these individuals and ways in which their guidance will help shape the Army’s outreach. New members are: Allen Gildard, chair; Tim Watts, vice-chair; Dale Marsden, secretary; Jim Metcalfe, treasurer; Steve Flannery; Kirk Mahlum; Ken Kiner; Hank Hoehn; Donnita Karres; Dennis Nicklaus; Olivia Smith; and Ken Alstott.

Mortar Board members support Angel Tree
During December’s pre-finals session, members of the Mortar Board honor society at the University of Hawaii’s Manoa campus on Oahu collected spare change for the Army’s Christmas Angel Tree project. Volunteer Galileo Tan and Mortar Board president Michael Chung estimated that 20-30 people donated money each day. Chung, a business major, brought the Christmas Angel Tree project to his own Kalani High School about six years ago.
