2015 Territorial African Heritage Conference

“Empowerment West: Encourage Each Other,” the Western Territory’s first African Heritage Conference, is slated for Nov. 6-8 in Phoenix based on Hebrews 10:24-25: And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

People of all ethnic groups—officers and soldiers ministering to communities of African descent—are welcome to attend the conference, which aims to empower people with knowledge both of ministry opportunities within The Salvation Army and of tools to increase church membership.

“We also want to celebrate the contribution of officers and soldiers of African Heritage to the Army’s mission,” said Major Clem Leslie, conference chairman.

The conference will explore several themes: worship relevancy for multicultural congregations, mentoring and encouragement of officers and lay leaders, the development of African immigrant ministries, and relevance of African heritage Christians in today’s society. It will also include a town hall where delegates can meet Army leaders.

Register for the conference online at uswevents.org. For more information, contact your divisional secretary for program.
