Near Chicago, a fatal accident occurred recently involving a semi-trailer truck and van, killing 10 people.. One of the vehicles was a Salvation Army 15-passenger van transporting individuals to a prison near Joliet for a scheduled visit. A canteen with Salvation Army personnel, including grief counselors, was sent to the site. Grief counselors were available at The Salvation Army Brainerd Corps on Laflin Street in Chicago, one of the van pick-up sites. The vehicle belonged to the Army’s West Loop halfway house. It is part of an Army program that transports individuals to prisons in the Chicago area, allowing visits to take place.
