Norwegian government budgets funds for the event

Norway’s government recently released its revised national budget, confirming that The Salvation Army will receive over US $2.2 million to host the Homeless World Cup in Oslo if the competition is assigned to the country in 2017.

The Salvation Army has managed Norway’s street soccer team since 2005, using sports to create positive growth for those experiencing addiction or homelessness.

This year, the Homeless World Cup is hosted in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Sept. 12-19.

The vision of the Homeless World Cup, according to its website, is “to use the power of football to transform the lives of homeless people all over the world. That vision is becoming a reality in 70 countries—involving hundreds of thousands of players since 2003.”
