Promoted to Glory

Major Ben Pollgreen was recently promoted to Glory from the Roo-Lan Health Care Center in Lacey, Wash., where he had been a patient. He was 88 years old.

Pollgreen was born in Bisbee, Ariz., in 1912. He was commissioned in 1932 with the Fight it Through Session. He fell in love with Captain Pat Marts and the two were married.

Many years of faithful service were given in the Northwest, Hawaiian Islands, Southern California and Northern California. A change of work resulted in an assignment as manager of the Phoenix Hospitality House, followed the Men’s Social Service Department at centers in San Francisco, Oakland, and Long Beach, Calif. After a brief return to corps duties the final responsibilities were superintendent of the Pinehurst Lodge in San Francisco and assistant to the director of the Los Angeles Men’s Social Service Center. Though Ben enjoyed fishing, woodworking and bowling, he enjoyed his family most of all. He remained faithful to his calling and continued his service to the Lord to the end.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alice Stoner and Mrs. Linda Houlihan, three foster sons, Major Floyd Bacon, Glendale, Calif. corps officer; Dan Beaver, Seely Lake, Mont., and Dick Peer of Yelm, Wash., six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A service of remembrance was held in Glendale, Calif., with Major Floyd Bacon officiating. A second service was held in Olympia, Wash., led by Major Charles Gillies.
