Emergency Disaster Training classes set

The Western Territory’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) office, in collaboration with divisional EDS coordinators, is offering a series of training courses throughout the territory during April and May. Training topics include the Incident Management System and Critical Incident Stress Management, both for individual and group crisis interventions.

The Incident Management System (IMS) is used by The Salvation Army to manage disaster work and by first responders to command, control and coordinate disaster relief operations. Its terminology and management principles are common practice within the disaster management field.

Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) training prepares participants to understand a wide range of individual and group crisis intervention techniques, such as demobilizations, briefing, defusing and debriefing. The International Critical Incident Stress Foundation certifies the training.

The Salvation Army’s National Disaster Training Program, funded in part by The Lilly Endowment, supports all training. For additional information, contact John Berglund, territorial disaster training coordinator at (562) 491-8345 or john_berglund@usw.salvationarmy.org
