The Yuma County Salvation Army and Eva Partida, caseworker for Yuma Family Services, received an award for “gracious and understanding support” to the State of Arizona Department of Corrections and the Released Back to Their Communities program.
For over a year, The Salvation Army in Yuma County—Captain Jonathan Harvey, Yuma County coordinator—has provided clothing and transportation assistance for inmates who have no other means of providing for themselves—“the least of these” as Christ described them. Many are indigent, with limited or no family support. In years past, the Department of Corrections had purchased clothing for inmates being released back into society but state budget cuts have made this impossible.
The generous contributions and partnership with the Yuma County Salvation Army have saved the State of Arizona taxpayers thousands of dollars as well as provided countless men with a sense of hope as they begin to rebuild their lives after having spent, in many cases, years behind bars.
Despite the hard economic times, by working hand in hand with other agencies The Salvation Army in Yuma County is doing the most good with the generous donations of others, and in turn building a stronger community for everyone.
