Category 3 storm hits Yucatan then crosses over Florida.

 

Hit by Tropical Storm Stan on its Pacific coast and Hurricane Wilma on the Atlantic side, Salvationists of Mexico find themselves severely pressed to deal with the magnitude of the problem in both areas.

Western officer Major Mike Olsen, emergency disaster consultant, has been dispatched to the two regions with an assessment team, by International Headquarters. After three weeks, food service continues in Chiapas where over 3,000 meals are served daily. Wilma took a highly destructive path through the heavily populated, tourist-oriented Yucatan peninsula leaving havoc in its wake. Seven trailer loads of food and five mobile canteens are currently in transit from Army units in Texas to the area.

Tampa, Florida
Twenty-five Salvation Army mobile feeding units from throughout Florida have been mobilized to affected areas with much needed food and water for both emergency workers and disaster survivors affected by Hurricane Wilma. The canteens are capable of serving up to 500 meals a day and are now active in eight counties. As reinforcements arrive, additional feeding sites will be opened throughout the region.
