The 2004 Western Music Institute (WMI), set for August 5-14 at Camp Mt. Crags, will be a ten-day experience of spiritual and musical development. Delegates will be challenged to look at their spiritual walk, Salvationist commitment, and encouraged to reach a very high standard of musical excellence.

The faculty of WMI, who are exceptional music and spiritual leaders, will create an atmosphere of learning and spiritual support that history has shown will have a lasting impact in the lives of those who attend.

This year’s theme is “Alive,” and daily Bible studies will focus on Romans Chapter 8; delegates and faculty will be challenged to live knowing that “through Christ we can be more than conquerors,” and that our existence should be a lively expression of God’s love.

Three major tracks will be offered. The Brass track uses the traditional format of a brass band, utilizing a variety of styles of music, giving each delegate the opportunity to reach a standard of excellence that cannot be reached on one’s own.

The Girls Vocal track, an intensive life learning experience, will use music arranged specifically for female voices, and will demonstrate leadership development as well as teach the fundamentals of singing.

The Praise and Worship Track is designed to teach the rudimentary skills for leading worship, including understanding the importance of planning and preparation, as well as introducing new songs.

Delegates will also participate in elective classes, theory instruction, choruses, small group Bible study, plus share in great fellowship that lasts a lifetime.

If you are aged 14-30, and are an active Salvationist, then you may want to be part of the Western Music Institute. If you are a corps officer who wants to encourage your young people to develop their leadership and music skills, then speak to your divisional headquarters about sending delegates to this conference.
