PAKISTANI GOVERNMENT SECURITY agencies have stepped up their presence at Christian locations including Army corps like this one in Karachi.

Pakistani Salvationists have been deeply moved and blessed by the many messages of love and prayer support reaching them daily from all corners of the globe. Since the attack on the believers in the church in Bahawalpur last week, these messages have taken on new meaning. We have an Army corps in Bahawalpur and can report that all Salvationists remain safe at the present time.

Government security agencies have stepped up their presence at all Christian locations, including those of The Salvation Army. Nevertheless, many people remain tense and worried. We are at the throne of grace asking that the conflict between America and the government of Afghanistan does not escalate into one be-tween Moslems and Christians in general. We are re-learning the need to pray for our enemies ac-cording to the teaching and perfect example of our Lord.

The flow of Afghan refugees into Pakistan has recently increased. Access to them is exceedingly difficult. Major Mike Olsen from IHQ will visit Pakistan during the week of November 5, 2001, to assist in the finalization of plans for an Army response.

The work and witness of the Army in Pakistan continues. A new corps was opened in Marriam Colony, Punjab on November 1, 2001, making the eighth new corps to start this year. Travel for overseas staff remains very difficult due to security problems, but all staff are safe and well at the time of writing.

The promises of the Scriptures, precious to Pakistani Salvationists at all times, have become even more significant in recent days. Passages like 1 Peter 1:7-8 and James 1:2-4 are helping us through day by day.
