SALLY AWARDS GALA



MARTHA WILLIAMSON, producer of ‘Touched by an Angel,’ received the first annual Steve Allen Award for Entertainment Excellence.

At its recent 43rd Annual Sally Awards Gala, the Southern California Division honored individuals whose outstanding contributions to the community and support of The Salvation Army have made a difference in the lives of others.

Awards and honorees included The William Booth Award, presented to Dr. Jack W. Hayford, founder of Church on the Way; the first annual Steve Allen Award for Entertainment Excellence, presented to Martha Williamson, Touched by an Angel producer; the Sports Leadership Award, given to A.C. Green, veteran basketball player; the Business Leadership Award, presented to Paul Orfalea, founder of Kinko’s; and the Community Leadership Award, given to Esther Snyder, founder of In N Out Burger.

The event was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, with entertainment by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr. Other special guests included Jayne Meadows, Dean Jones, Fritz Coleman and The Millennium Choir.

“The Sally Awards Gala was an incredible event, and all the honorees were most deserving of their recognition,” said Divisional Commander Lt. Col. Alfred R. Van Cleef.

All proceeds from the event were designated to the Southern California Division’s South Central Youth Project and The Salvation Army National Disaster Relief Fund.
