Two homes claimed, 1,100 more under an evacuation order or warning

The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team is working in Ravalli and Missoula counties and nearby areas in Montana affected by the Lolo Peak wildfire.

The fire has spread to more than 31,000 acres, and is only 7 percent contained. Two homes have been destroyed by the fires, and 1,100 more are either under an evacuation order or warning.

Officials have warned against traveling on portions of Highway 12 and Highway 93 corridors.

The Montana National Guard, meanwhile, has 154 soldiers providing assistance to the Missoula and Ravalli County Sheriff’s offices.

“We are collaborating with several other groups in the area, to be sure that the impacted families are supported. We will help however we can, for as long as we’re needed,” said Captain Josh Boyd, Missoula Corps Officer. The Salvation Army has a tradition of supporting disaster survivors long-term, helping families rebuild their lives – a process which often lasts months or years.
