Target launches Christmas partnership with Army

Target to kick off partnership with $1 million donation to launch Target/Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree at Target.com/salvationarmy

 

The Target Corporation and The Salvation Army announced a multi-faceted partnership for the 2006 Christmas season including the launch of the Target/Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree, an online version of The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program. Target will donate $1,000,000 to support the launch of this new online program, and will invite its guests to give to the Army as well. In addition, Target will donate 100% of profits from the sales of a limited edition Harvey Lewis angel ornament accented with red Swarovski® crystals to the Army’s Christmas efforts.

A virtual giving tree
On Thursday, November 16 Target launched the Target/Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree. Target.com visitors can purchase a virtual ornament for any chosen dollar amount to provide new clothing, toys or food to families in need. After purchasing an angel, visitors can then personalize their angels on Target.com/salvationarmy by choosing the angel’s color, wing shape and wing pattern. Contributions will be distributed by the Army based on needs across the country.

Limited edition ornament
In addition to the $1,000,000 donation and the Angel Giving Tree, Target will support The Salvation Army with a limited edition Harvey Lewis angel ornament accented with red Swarovski® crystals. The angel ornaments are now available for purchase in Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com. The ornaments cost $9.99, and 100% of profits will be contributed to The Salvation Army. Proceeds from ornament sales will be distributed in the communities where the ornaments are purchased.

Online snowflakes
For those who are dreaming of a white Christmas, Target presents a free opportunity to create a virtual snowflake (and raise donations for the Army) on a site called “Snow Days.” At ‘snow days’ visitors can create their own snowflakes, add their name and a message, and tell their friends about the opportunity. It’s fun, and its free.

The site’s designer will donate up to $25,000, based on the number of snowflakes created. The site opened on November 17 and will close at midnight on December 31. More snowflakes created equals more money donated to the Army. Look for “snow days” at
