Following a bon voyage concert attended by over 450 people, the Pasadena Tabernacle Youth Chorus embarked on a ministry tour to the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division this spring. The youth chorus, led by Barbara Allen, is composed of 45 teenagers and young adults.

The group began their musical ministry at Camp Homelani and Youth Councils. Immediately upon arrival at the camp, and after a thirty-minute presentation of contemporary Christian music, strong cords of friendship and affection became evident between the mainlanders and their Hawaiian hosts. The next morning, the youth participated in the Sunday morning worship service at the Leeward Corps. The corps, under the leadership of Captains Roy and Paula Wild, was filled to capacity as the youth chorus shared music, testimonies by Stephanie Hill and Isaac Henry-John, and other devotional items.

On Sunday evening, the Tabernacle Youth Chorus provided a full program at the corps’ Upper Room meeting. More than 200 soldiers and friends from several corps and institutions on Oahu attended.

The Tabernacle Youth Chorus had two wonderful engagements on Monday. The first was an advisory board civic luncheon held at the Sheraton Hotel in Waikiki, where approximately 400 gathered in support of The Salvation Army and to honor many fine volunteers. The guest speakers were Commissioners Joe and Doris Noland, and the Tabernacle Youth Chorus provided musical support. That evening, the youth chorus gave a forty-five minute concert on the central stage at Ala Moana Mall.

Following the concert, a number of local teenagers and young Japanese tourists befriended members of the chorus. This provided an opportunity for the members to share their Christian witness.

The Tabernacle Youth Chorus is grateful for the wonderful hospitality of (then) Majors Ralph and Ivy Hood, divisional commanders; Major Linda Markowicz, (then) divisional secretary; Majors Randy and Jonnette Mulch, divisional youth leaders; and Captains Roy and Paula Wild.
