SUMMER SERVICE–Service corps teams will represent the West in Germany, Russia, the Caribbean, and the Marshall and Pacific Islands.

The Territorial Youth and Candidates’ department is pleased to announce the 1999 Service Corps teams. Twenty-seven young adults ages 18 to 26, divided into five teams, will represent the West as they reach out to share the good news of Jesus Christ through a ministry of service.

This year’s teams will visit Germany, Russia, the Caribbean, and the Marshall and Pacific Islands.

The Germany team, under the leadership of Aimee Gaines, will assist with new corps openings in two of the divisions. Team members are: Evelyn Gee, Heather Lowcock, Jamie Onitsuka, Julie Shubert, and Ericka Souders. They will work with A/Captains Patrick and Kitty Granat (Western Territory) who serve in that command.

Shoshannah Begonia will lead the Russia team. Team members Robert Austin, Gina Halverson, Shane Halverson, Melani Hughes, and Micah Raymond will participate in vacation Bible school, prison ministries, open-air meetings, worship services, summer camp, and a summer-end youth festival.

Fulton Hawk will lead a team to St. Maarten in the Caribbean. Team members Ken Diep, Ruth Ebel, Patrice Keith, and Joy Raven will be involved with many aspects of corps program activities.

Two teams of five will be working in separate parts of the Pacific Islands. Rachel Utrera will lead the team serving in Guam and Pohnpei. Krista Clarence, Brittney Hawk, Shannon Scott, and Sherry Smith are team members The second team will go to the Marshall Islands, led by Eliza Gee. Team members include D’Andra Cecil, Wendy LaBarge, Amanda Larson, and Rachel Ross.

Major Rudy Hedgren, territorial youth and candidates’ secretary, states “We are very excited at the wonderful opportunities of service available this year through our service corps program. It is our hope and prayer that through their experiences, members will see a broader vision of a world in need. That they will see an international Salvation Army that ministers and cares at every level. That they will catch a glimpse of God’s calling and will in their life, and at the same time, be drawn closer to him.”
