A band comprised of musicians from across the Southern California Division will be traveling to Hong Kong to participate in the Hong Kong Command’s 2002 Congress, Commissioning and Officers’ Councils in November.

Under the direction of Divisional Music Ministries Director Bandmaster Kevin Larsson the 30 member group will have a full schedule as they minister in the marketplace, the shopping centers, youth rallies, congress meetings, commissioning, Sunday Holiness meeting, as well as in Macau. For one day of the six day-tour the band will also cross over to mainland China to minister there.

“One of the greatest gifts God has given The Salvation Army is that of a global mission and ministry,” said Lt. Colonel Alfred Van Cleef, Southern California divisional commander.

After the band originally scheduled to participate had to unexpectedly cancel, “a call came from Hong Kong asking for our help,” said Van Cleef. “Within a matter of just a few days, Kevin Larsson was able to receive a commitment from thirty musicians throughout Southern California to give of their personal time in order to be involved in this great ministry opportunity.”

The theme for the congress weekend in the Hong Kong Command is “Moving Forward in Faith.” “We thank God for the privilege of ministry through not only the music of the band, but the testimonies, the messages and the many personal contacts that shall be made in the name of Jesus Christ,” Van Cleef said.
