KETTLES FILLED WITH KINDNESS, CASH

Ed Scriven, Jr., has had lots of practice ringing bells…54 years of it, in fact.

Young Ed first stood kettle as a volunteer in La Grande, Oregon, in 1946, his parents’ first appointment–drafted, no doubt, by his father, (now) Major Edward Scriven (R).

More than 50 years later, he could be found standing kettle in Hawaii.

“Ed and his wife, Joann, were in the islands, where they go each year as Ed runs in the marathon,” said Scriven, Sr. “They volunteer for many of the Army activities while there.”
