Salvation Army relief teams from the Hong Kong and Macau Command continue to extend aid following the mid-April earthquake in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu in China’s Qinghai Province.

Following the powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake in the province on April 14, Salvation Army relief supplies including barley flour, warm clothes and medicines, were delivered and distributed to the survivors. Teams conducted on-site assessments in Yushu and confirmed that folded beds were needed as the weather in the highlands is extremely cold. The first batch of 6,000 folded beds was delivered to survivors in late April. The Army is also receiving money from the Hong Kong government’s Disaster Relief Fund to purchase an additional 40,000 folded beds for survivors.

Salvation Army Qinghai relief service has received tremendous support from the people of Hong Kong. As of April 26, The Salvation Army raised roughly $754,000 (USD).
