The Sacramento Annual Community Luncheon not only broke the record for attendance, but also the amount of funds raised that will help the Army continue to Help Others, One Life At A Time. Fine planning and diligence of Sacramento Advisory Board member John Frisch and Army staff helped make the event a great success, according to Sacramento City Coordinator Capt. Clement Leslie.

Over 1300 individuals crowded the room at $500 per table. Local businesses offered various levels of sponsorship for the event. Sutter Health set the tone by offering support in excess of $25,000.

Commissioner Robert A. Watson, national commander, was a special guest. “I was thrilled with the attendance and remarkable demonstration of support of the Army’s work in that wonderful community,” he said.

Guests including divisional leaders Lt. Colonels Charles and April Strickland, members of Sacramento Advisory Organizations, and local business gathered to pay tribute to Ralph Anderson, a longtime supporter of The Salvation Army in the city. Watson presented him with the “Others” award in recognition of his 11 years of exemplary service.

His dedication and determination have gained The Salvation Army the support of many business and community leaders. “The luncheon was a wonderful opportunity for The Salvation Army to enhance its visibility in the community, and it was an unbelievable honor for me and my family,” he said.

“I am amazed at the overwhelming generosity evidenced at this event,” said Leslie. “The community, rallying behind the highly motivated members of the Advisory Organizations, once again rose to the challenge of helping the Army to make a difference.”
