The Salvation Army Los Angeles Day Care Center recently recognized the Los Angeles Rotary Club #5, and its president, Kathy Turner, for replacing the center’s worn-out playground equipment with a new Discovery Pine Playstructure and Circle Cycle.

Approximately 50 ft. in length, the playstructure is built with two large, separate play areas connected by a wooden plank bridge. The Circle Cycle is for the center’s younger children.

“The Los Angeles Rotary Club #5 has always been a strong supporter of the Los Angeles Day Care Center. We are extremely grateful for their ongoing concern and generosity,” said Southern California Divisional Commander Lt. Colonel Alfred R. Van Cleef. Over the years, many Rotary members have also served on the center’s Advisory Council.

Founded in 1922, the day care center is the oldest and largest Salvation Army day care operation in Los Angeles County. Most of the children are from single parent families who work in the nearby garment and industrial district that borders downtown Los Angeles.

Services at the center include full toddler care, latchkey and full-time summer care for school age children. Last year more than 30,000 meals were provided at the center, which is licensed for 150 children, ages 2-5, and 100 children ages 6-12.
