Nevada’s Reno-Sparks community—despite having among the nation’s highest unemployment and home foreclosure rates—came through for The Salvation Army’s Christmas campaign. More than 3,000 Washoe County households obtained assistance, thanks to generous toy, food, monetary and volunteer support.

Over 6,500 children received more than 34,000 toys from the joint Marine Corps Toys for Tots/Salvation Army Angel Tree partnership. Additionally, The Salvation Army distributed food boxes and turkeys or gift certificates to approximately 3,000 families.

The Silver Angel Tree and Community Care Ministries programs provided gifts to more than 1,000 low-income senior citizens. On Christmas Day, Harrah’s Reno sponsored a free Christmas community dinner to more than 250 guests in the Reno Corps fellowship hall. The Salvation Army also distributed blankets, toys, gifts and hygiene products at the dinner.
