🙏 Spirituality: Prayers for when everything is 🙏 Spirituality: Prayers for when everything is too much
.
Bunmi Laditan, who’s behind the satirical @honesttoddler, has a new book, “Dear God: Honest Prayers to a God Who Listens.” In it she journeys through emotions we all experience—doubt, anger, joy, desperation, love, loneliness and gratefulness. Funny, fresh, and stunningly relatable, she names our fears, voices our painful questions, and bravely says what we’re all thinking anyway in our prayerful wrestling with God. As she writes:
.
“Someone reading this is wondering, like I did, if God even listens. Does God care? I had the same questions and found it easier to put my letters into a journal lest they evaporate into the air.
.
As I grappled and scraped through the hardest years of my life I wrote prayers of fear, longing, heartache, even frustration and anger. I figured if God was bold enough to invent so many species of spiders, He could certainly handle my rantings. Perhaps we have that boldness in common.”

💭 Impact: Building a thriving marriage with lov 💭 Impact: Building a thriving marriage with love and respect
.
What we want more than anything is to have a strong marriage that weathers the difficulties in life and provides the joy and satisfaction we crave. That is why it is critical to go back to the basics of what God says about marriage.
.
For he thought of it, created it and knows what each of us needs and wants in a relationship. The underlying principles for all behavior and communication between husband and wife is love and respect. We all—men and women—want to be loved and want to be respected.

💭 Impact: Salvation Army removes barriers so ho 💭 Impact: Salvation Army removes barriers so homeless can get COVID-19 tested
.
When clients experiencing homelessness asked Salvation Army Santa Monica Corps Caseworker Michael Figari about how they could get tested for COVID-19, he didn’t have a resource for them. Throughout the pandemic, Los Angeles County has offered more than 200 testing sites for citizens to get free COVID testing, but still, gaps remained for those experiencing homelessness.
.
“Most of the resources that are available have barriers that can be problematic for clients who are fighting homelessness,” Figari said. “So whether that be that you need to sign up online or the location is too far away...even the things that are sponsored by the government in different ways, those all have barriers that can be hard for them.”
.
That’s why, through a partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, The Salvation Army Santa Monica (California) Corps is hosting a new walk-up testing site aimed to eliminate many of the barriers those experiencing homelessness face while seeking COVID-19 testing as well as provide wrap around services if the test comes back positive.
🙏 Spirituality: Studying Imago Dei // Reconcili 🙏 Spirituality: Studying Imago Dei // Reconciliation
.
Though we are all sinners, we no longer have to live under the control of sin. From the moment Adam and Eve took a bite of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, God established a plan to rescue us from our sins.
.
Through belief in Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven, and we can be free from the grasp of sin and division from God. Through Christ we are also enabled to be reconcilers in the world—reconciling broken relationships, systems and people back to God. Study with us to better understand the importance of Imago Dei and how to live into who he has called you to be.

Since last spring, The Salvation Army Roseburg Corps Officer Captain Kristy Church has been applying nonstop for grants that help organizations provide #COVID19 assistance to their communities.
.
Through a grant from the Oregon Health Authority, Church and her husband Captain Brent Church were able to partner the Roseburg Corps with the Douglas Public Health Network, a not-for-profit organization, to provide everything from COVID quarantine housing and meals to clothing to individuals who’ve bore the brunt of the coronavirus pandemic.

“When we say yes to Jesus, our lives change. Jesus’ first call to everyone is to repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near. And then in Matthew’s Gospel comes the double calling of the first disciples—first, Simon Peter and Andrew, then James and John—who are asked to lay down their professions—not only to hear the word of God but to act on it.”

The Salvation Army International Social Justice Commission’s understanding of social justice flows from God’s justice. God desires boundless justice for every part of creation. Justice is for all people, in every part of life, in every society, without discrimination.
.
We seek justice in order to promote a vision of justice based on the life and teaching of Jesus Christ and to amplify the voices of poor, marginalized and oppressed people and translate their real-life insights into policies, practices and life-giving opportunities.
