Annual fashion show features made over models.

Fourteen women from the Rosecrest women’s drug and alcohol rehabilitation residence in Fresno, Calif., recently participated in the 22nd annual Rosecrest Guild fashion show and luncheon, displaying outfits with matching shoes and accessories purchased from local Salvation Army Family Stores.

“We are a group of women with a commitment to support the ladies of Rosecrest who have the courage to seek to regain their lives and self respect,” said Annette LaRue, Rosecrest Guild founder and chairperson.

The beautifully coifed, manicured models showed off the thrift store finds to 200 guests and supporters of these women who, much like the recycled clothing they wore, are turning their used, worn-out lives into something instrumental and beautiful. The residents of Rosecrest, daily immersed in a six-month, faith-based program to learn and apply new skills to their lives, are being changed and molded into God’s character, taking off the old and putting on the new.

“We’ve never done anything like this before, and it’s a frightening experience to model clothing in front of so many people,” one model said.

Jennifer looked anything but nervous, however, as she modeled a red and black kimono style tunic with black, calf-length, cuffed pants. She added a bit of flair with red patent wedge heels and red drop earrings. As with all the models, Jennifer will keep this outfit to add to her wardrobe as a reminder of this occasion.

“The event deeply touched me spiritually, because I see God working in each of these women’s lives,” said second year attendee Judy Adolph. “Because of the faith-based program they are in, the right focus is being presented to them, showing them the only way to make change in their lives is to have God in their hearts.”

Planning is underway for the 23rd annual fashion show and luncheon to be held in April 2010. Tickets sell at $15 each and a silent auction takes place during the event. For more information, call Rosecrest Guild member Major Vicki Danielson at (559) 355-1080.
