rudd-woldMRS. BRIGADIER MARION E. RUDD-WOLD (R) was recently promoted to Glory from a rest home in Torrance, Calif.

The second of seven children, she was born in 1911 to officer parents, Mary and William Smith, in Twin Falls, Ida.

Youth as a child of corps officers provided a solid foundation for her future officership ministry, which began with commissioning in 1930 as a member of the Climbers Session. Her unique first six years of ministry were at Skid Road corps in San Francisco and Seattle.

Marion met Cadet Wilbert Alfred Rudd in 1934 while on the Training College staff, and marriage followed in 1938. Together they shared in corps, divisional, and territorial appointments, where she found good use for her spiritual gifts of service and helping.

After widowhood of 13 years, Marion married Brigadier Ben Wold, and together they enjoyed ten years with family and friends. His three boys and their families brought joy to both of them.

For the last few years she has continued to put her resources to work as she supported her officer children in their various appointments. To perpetuate her special interest in overseas projects, an endowment fund has been established in her name.

Marion is survived by three children and their spouses: Lt. Colonel Sherryl Van Cleef, Colonel Carol Saunders, and Captain Robert Rudd; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Brigadier Oliver Yardley (R); Mrs. Dora Torgerson; and Mrs. Lois Anderson.

A Celebration of Life and Service was held at the Santa Monica Corps. Captain Robert Rudd led the service, with family members participating. Captain Clem Leslie spoke.

kaiserBeloved Salvation Army leader MRS. COMMISSIONER LOUISE KAISER (R) was recently promoted to Glory while on the way to a hospital from the assisted-living area of her residence.

Louise was born in 1909 in Berlin, Germany, to Colonel and Mrs. Franz Duerr, moving to the United States during her teen years. She entered the Training College in 1930, and was commissioned in 1931 as a member of the Climbers Session. In 1934 she married Captain Paul S. Kaiser. Together they served in numerous corps and divisional appointments.

After ministering in Switzerland and Germany and at International Headquarters, Mrs. Kaiser served as Territorial president for Women’s Organizations in the Western Territory (1972) and Central Territory (1974). In 1979 she retired from National Headquarters, where her husband had served as National Commander since 1977. Living at the Retirement Community in Asbury Park, N.J., for several years, she was a soldier of the Asbury Park Corps.

Mrs. Commissioner Kaiser, known as “Lulu” to friends, won the hearts of many during her years of active service and retirement. Independent and strong, she was gracious and able to communicate to others her deep interest in them. She always said something worth hearing when speaking in a public meeting. Consequently, people were drawn not only to her lovely German accent and beautiful verbal style, but also the content of her speech.

A funeral service was held in Asbury Park with Lt. Colonel Paul D. Seiler, Jr. (R) leading. A committal service was conducted at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.

Her cherished daughter, Edna Lou, preceded her to Glory in 1963, and her husband in 1989. Messages for the family may be sent to her sister-in-law, Mrs. Myra Olley, 3450 Evans Rd., Lake Louise Apts. 143-C, Atlanta GA 30341.
