Brigadier Clenton E. Irby (R)
was promoted to Glory recently from the Hemet Commun-ity Hospital, Hemet, Calif.

A third-generation Salvation-ist, Clenton Eddy Irby was born in Elida, N.M., in 1915. He entered the Training College from Ontario, Calif., and was commissioned in 1936 with the World for God Session. Beginning with the Los Angeles No. 11 Corps, he held several appointments in California.

While stationed in Hayward he met and fell in love with Emma Johnson. The Irbys were married in 1945 and began their long career together with appointments in the Intermountain and Northwest Divisions. While stationed in Butte, Mont., Irby was counselor at the Montana State Prison. In Walla Walla, Wash., the Irbys served as counselors at the Washington State Prison, serving both men and women. After six years at the Portland Harbor Light they served the remainder of their officership in the Men’s Social Service Department, retiring from the Santa Barbara MSSC in 1981.

The funeral service, conducted by his son-in-law, Lt. Colonel Raymond Peacock, was held in San Jacinto, and interment followed at the San Jacinto Valley Cemetery.

Irby is survived by his loving wife, Emma; one daughter, Lt. Colonel Carolyn Peacock; three sons: Clenton, Stephen and Clefton; and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Brigadier Edwina Kendoll (R) and a brother, Major Carl Irby (R).
