Mrs. Major Mildred Blix (R) peacefully entered into Heaven recently following a stroke.

Mildred Maurine Jackson was born in 1919 in Tenino, Wash. The family soon moved to Boise, Idaho, where she grew up. From Boise Mildred entered the Training School and was commissioned in 1938 with the Dauntless Evangelists Session. There she met her future husband, John Hoogstad, and they were married in 1939.

They served at corps in Wyoming, Colorado, Alaska, Washington, and California. After a short time on the staff at the School for Officers’ Training they returned to corps work in Roseburg, Ore. When John became ill, Millie ran the corps and also looked after him until he was promoted to Glory in 1975 at the age of 59.

In 1977 she married Major Leonard Blix (R) and entered into retirement. They helped out in various corps in the Cascade Division and were faithful soldiers at the Salem Citadel until failing health prevented them from regular attendance. After Leonard’s promotion to Glory in 1997 she moved to Washington State to be close to her children.

Major Blix is survived by her children, John and Mary Hoogstad of Marysville, Calif., JoAnn and David Lipscomb of Stanwood, Wash., and Jacqueline Smith of Spokane, Wash. She also leaves stepchildren Major Leonard Blix, Oliver Blix and Ellen Joy Sweeney; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service was held in Stanwood, Wash., with Captain Robert Lloyd, Everett corps officer, officiating. Messages of sympathy may be sent to: Mrs. JoAnn Lipscomb; P.O. Box 1680; Stanwood WA 98292.

Colonel Oon Young Chang (R) was promoted to Glory from Queens, Flushing, N.Y. He served as Chief Secretary of the Korean Territory for 16 years and retired in 1970. He was a godly man whose love of the Lord was shown in his service to others over many years.

Among his survivors are his son Commissioner Peter Chang (R), former Western territorial commander, and his grandson, Captain Man-Hee Chang, at the Fresno ARC.

Promotions to Glory

Brenda Gibson-Haughin, daughter of Majors Kenneth and Betty Gibson, (Sacramento ARC, CA) was recently promoted to Glory following a long battle with cancer. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Gibsons at 2674 Marquette Dr., Sacramento CA 95826.

Ila A. Olsson of Grand Junction, Colo., has gone Home to be with her Lord. As Ila Hoisington, she was commissioned in 1942, and served as an officer until her marriage to Rune Olsson in 1961. Ila remained a staunch friend of the Army, serving as chairman of the Advisory Board in Grand Junction for two terms.

She is survived by two daughters, Tammira Espinosa and Catherine Roles, five grandsons, and a sister, Mrs. Ellen Roan.
