Brigadier Mary Foster Olof (R)
Brigadier Mary Foster Olof (R) was recently promoted to Glory from Portland, Ore. Born in 1903, she was one of 75 probationary lieutenants commissioned with the Blood and Fire Session of 1925. Her first marching orders took her to command in Sonora, Calif. By January 1928 Captain Foster had been appointed to the young people’s department at territorial headquarters; then to the field department for 11 years.

In 1943, Major Foster was appointed to the U.S.O., serving as director of operations in Salinas until 1945. During ensuing years, she served at divisional and territorial headquarters, and on the training college staff. During this time she met recently retired Major John Olof, and they were married in 1952. Their days together were happy but brief, as he was promoted to Glory in 1953. She then returned to active duty.

In 1954 she was appointed assistant territorial young people’s secretary, serving for ten years, and her final appointment was in the education section. Upon retirement in 1965 she moved to the Portland area, where she was actively involved with the Portland Tabernacle Corps.

She is survived by her brother, John Foster, and step-daughter, Lillian, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services were held in Portland with Captain Brian Saunders officiating. Messages of condolence may be addressed to the family at 1516 S.E. Eton Lane, Milwaukie OR 97222.
