Promoted to Glory

Captain Naomi Johnson
Captain Naomi Johnson, 79, was promoted to Glory from her home in John Day, Oregon, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Naomi was born December 11, 1926 and grew up in Asoltin, Washington. Following high school graduation, she married Leonard Johnson in 1944. They had three children, Margaret, Sharon and Bill.

The Johnsons were soldiers of the corps in Lewiston, Idaho, and from this corps they entered the School for Officer Training and were commissioned as part of the Soldiers of Christ Session in 1962. They served as corps officers in Nampa, Idaho, for five years and in Medford, Oregon, for seven years. They were appointed to Salem, Oregon, in 1974. In each appointment Naomi was active with youth ministry and the Home League program. The Johnsons retired in 1976 due to health problems.

In retirement Naomi loved to do crafts of many kinds, gardening and canning, as well as treasuring time spent with her family. In August 2003 Naomi and Leonard moved to John Day, Oregon, where she enjoyed her home and the nearby wildlife.

Captain Naomi Johnson is survived by Leonard, her husband of 61 years, two daughters, a son, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at the Asotin Cemetery, Asotin, Washington, with A/Captain Ralph Guthrie officiating.
