Major Clinton Steele was promoted to Glory June 25 from his home in Wasilla, Alaska.

Born August 25, 1939 in Denver, Colo. to Salvationist parents, Clint enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged after a four-year term. He then worked at the naval shipyard in San Francisco for ten years.

Clint met his future wife, Georgia Satterwhite, in 1957 at Northern Calif. divisional youth councils, and they wed in 1960. They entered the San Francisco Training College and were commissioned in 1975 with the Soldiers of the Cross Session. Their first appointment was at the Grand Junction, Colo. Corps as assistants. Together they served over 27 years. Corps appointments included Ogden, Utah; Denver Harbor Light Center; Bend, Ore. and La Grande, Ore.

In 1983 the Steeles spent two years as assistants at the Los Angeles ARC. They then returned to corps work, serving in Haines, Alaska and in Bellingham, Anacortes and Walla Walla, Wash. In 1998 they were appointed to the Alaska Division, a place they loved.

The Tlinget tribe adopted Clint during his service in southeast Alaska. He became a member of the Eagle clan of Bear House, and his Tlinget name was Kaah-Goo.

Due to Clint’s poor health, the Steeles took early retirement in 2002 from the Mat-Su Valley Corps and made their home in Wasilla, Alaska.

Clint leaves behind his wife Georgia; four children: Tina Bentley, Major June Nicloy, Darlene Fischer and Clinton David III; father and step-mother Envoys Clinton and Dorothy Steele; mother-in-law Bertha Jennings; sister Judy Davis; and eight grandchildren.

The memorial service was held at the Mat-Su Valley Corps with Major Calvin Prouty officiating and Majors Dan Hughes and Bob Rudd participating. Major Steele had previously requested that donations be made to the Mat-Su Valley Corps for the establishment of a music camp scholarship fund in his name.

Naomi M. Storey, mother of Majors Eunice Lucas (Phoenix ARC) and Millie Bearchell (Kroc Center, San Diego) was promoted to Glory June 25 in Fresno, Calif. Naomi was visiting with her daughter-in-love, Carolyn Storey, at the time of her death.

Naomi was born June 19, 1924. She and her husband Ed, who preceded her in death, came to The Salvation Army through the open-air ministry of the Hollywood Tabernacle; the corps was meeting on Sunday evening at the corner of Hollywood and Vine under the leadership of CSM Dr. Bob Docter.

Ed and Naomi became auxiliary captains and later received full captain status. Ed had previously been an ordained minister with the Nazarene Church.

Naomi lived at the Puyallup, Wash. Silvercrest, where she enjoyed playing piano for the residents.

Surviving Naomi are six children: Art Storey, Robert Storey, Major Eunice Lucas, Major Millie Bearchell, Nancy Pack and Beverly Gantt; one child preceded her in death. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Naomi will be remembered for her gentle spirit and her unconditional love for her family.

Funeral services were held in Puyallup with Colonel George Church officiating.

Longtime Salvationist Laura Pearl Osborne was promoted to Glory on June 10, 2003.

Born in Cheybogen, Mich. in 1913, Laura was active in The Salvation Army most of her life, including the Caldwell, Idaho Corps where she served with their jail ministry and the Coos Bay, Ore. Corps where she participated in the League of Mercy (now Community Care Ministries).

In 1957 Laura, with her husband and family, moved to Portland, Ore., where she attended the Moore St. Corps and the Portland Tabernacle as a Home League member. She finally settled at the Hillsboro Corps, recently renamed the Tualatin Valley Corps, with her daughter Barbara and son-in-law Bill Leach.

A memorial service was held at Skyline Memorial Gardens. Laura is survived by four children: David, Barbara, Clifford and Shirley, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
