Promoted to Glory

Major Harland Hall was promoted to Glory on November 27 from the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, Calif.

Born January 16, 1916 in Hereford, Colo., Harland moved with his parents to Arlington, Wash. and was raised on a chicken farm. He worked as an engineer for North American Douglas Aircraft and served as a CPO in the Navy. In 1941 he married Catherine Clarke.

The Halls were commissioned as officers in 1951 with the Ambassadors Session. The couple then pioneered the Army’s work in Flagstaff, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada, and served as corps officers in Boise and Santa Monica. They spent their last 16 years as officers in the Men’s Social Service Department, serving in Los Angeles, San Jose, Sacramento, Denver and San Diego. In 1980 they retired from the Van Nuys Center. After retirement, Major Harland filled in as corps officer in Las Vegas and Pasadena along with helping as chaplain in various ARCs.

A memorial service was held at the Santa Monica Corps with Major Edwin Henderson leading and Corps Officer Captain Brian West officiating. Interment was at the Washelli Memorial Park in Seattle, Wash.

Harland leaves behind daughter and son-in-law Majors Barry and Arlene Dooley; son and daughter-in-law Clarke and Barbie Hall; grandchildren, Catherine Dooley, Marie de Langen, Tim Dooley, Karley Hall, Kaleb Hall and Zion Hall; and great-grandchildren Oscar and Annika de Langen.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to your corps for world missions in honor of Major Harland Hall. Messages may be sent to Major Arlene Dooley at P. O. Ellsworth G. Madsen was promoted to Glory from Harrison Hospital, Bremerton, Wash., on November 23. He was born October 1, 1920.

Well known throughout the territory, Ellie served as the Corps Sgt. Major of Oakland Citadel, Calif., for 28 years, as well as serving as an area representative in the divisional service extension department. In retirement, he was a chaplain at the Sacramento ARC and helped many men come to know the Lord.

Ellie was the patriarch of the Madsen family, who counted on him for his devoted prayer support and now will be receiving his support from heaven.

A graveside service of remembrance and committal was held at Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Daly City, Calif., led by Major Glen Madsen.

Ellie leaves behind many family members, including his sister, Colonel Eleanor Murray and sister-in-law Major Carol Madsen. He was uncle to Majors Glen and Linda Madsen and Major Audrey Madsen.
